Brainstorm
This group brainstorming session was intended to give us a chance to talk more about the direction and visual aesthetic of the game as well as how we could fill the world we wanted to create alongside who to fill it with. In this session Holly (our lead 3d artist) came up with the idea to have an NPC [a non-player character] be a sort of mushroom merchant since some fungi have been collected and tested to see if they could breakdown plastics into organic matter. The fungi Pestalotiopsis microspora are capable of breaking down a type of polyurethane in anaerobic conditions and without sunlight, this gives me as a designer a chance to create areas without either light or air where the characters abilities still work with an actual scientific reason behind it.
The second portion of this Brainstorming session was coming up with a visual style. The general theme was rundown and overgrown, the places we explore have been taken back by nature but with slight twists from the effects of the microplastics in the environments. The microplastics don't only affect the plant life but the wild life too, the animals that have a high concentration of microplastics in their system are not quite right to say the least. The actual visual style of the game will be somewhat simplistic in the sense that it won't be ultra-realistic in anyway given our target audience, 14+, we wanted to create a game that has a simpler yet more stimulating visual style. To this point my main point of inspiration comes from the HBO max series "Scavengers Reign" (2023).

After our Brainstorming session we were instructed by our director Sasha to come back to her with moodboards filled with images that we collect in the time between our next meeting.
