Labour Market: Games Industry
Source: Newzoo, Games Market Reports and Forecasts, January 2024
From this Data set alone I can see that revenue generated by the global games industry has increased just over a short year and this year hasn't concluded yet. The over all raise in revenue is approximately 4 billion USD a 2.1% increase year over year in comparison to 2023's 0.5% increase from 2022.
As far as diversity goes in the games industry as a whole I believe my ethnic background is underrepresented at only 5% of the British Games industry workforce although, that's not, in my opinion, the fault of the industry. Its more likely just a result of location as of 2021 82% of people in the UK are Caucasian as a opposed to the 4% black population. Given the disparity I cant blame the games industry it's expected however, if there were a wider range of diverse characters in games from all areas of the world not just stereotypical ones like black people from Nigeria and white people from Britain for example, games could be so much more interesting if people of varying skin colours came from places where their population isn't huge, this could help recognise those born in foreign countries feel recognised possibly inspiring them to join the games industry and repeat the cycle.
