Audience profile
Demographics
A demographic is a term to describe a group of people you are attempting to appeal to based upon "the statistical characteristics of human populations (such as age or income) used especially to identify markets" - Merriam Webster (2024).
This is the general outline of the list of demographics we are going to take into consideration when designing our game alongside the narrative. These demographics encompass the following.
Age - the age of our audience and how we will cater towards that specific range. 14-15
Gender Identity - The way our audience expresses themselves and how we can accommodate them and avoid accidentally offending our audience whether through ignorance or lack of knowledge. We aren't aiming to target any particular gender identity but our game does have a non binary main character.
.
Ethnicity - The Ethnic background of our audience although this is less a target to pursue than a product of which ethnicities interact with this style of content. No particular ethnic backgrounds.
Disability/ Neurodiversity- The disabilities of our audiences and how we can make our game more accessible to anyone as well as how we layout our games to make it easier for those with learning difficulties to play our games possibly by enabling certain settings.
Location- The location in this context refers to locations in which we will be releasing our games in.
Marital/Family status- This demographic refers to the possible target audience of couples looking to play games together alongside the rest of the family, this would make it so our age range has to be E for everyone so kids can play too.
Education- In this context, the education refers to the level of education our target audience and in turn age so in that sense it will be for 14+ but our specific demographic will be university students at ages 18-23
Psychographics
Psychographics are defined as "market research or statistics classifying population or groups according to psychological variables (such as attitudes, values, or fears)" - Merriam Webster dictionary
Values / Attitudes- Generally good morals and positive attitude
Tastes / Preferences- Those visually stimulated by bright colours and fun character design
Hobbies & Interests- Artists and creatives alike
Political and Religious Beliefs- We hold no prejudices so everybody from beliefs and backgrounds
Behaviour and trends
If we had access to our audiences stats for example general age group gender identity or hobbies/ interests we could produce something that could entice each of these demographics on top of that if we followed trends within the media pertaining to these specific groups we could advertise these types of things more to draw more customers in. This would be a viable way to do things but it is underhanded and an example of targeted adverts which is something I personally dislike all it is a money grab based on a persons interest or personality which is something companies shouldn't really have access to.
