 Meeting Log

23/10/24
Meeting goals - Distribute roles within our group as well as preparation for the presentation. We looked over al the work had had so far for the game as well as discussing any issues we had during this phase.

1/11/24

This week we discussed the storyboards we might include for this project on top of that we considered the mechanics we could put into our game to make it more interactive. On top of that we looked into what is and isn't feasible to do in Ren'py.

13/11/24

We did some consolidation of the plot to shorten the total run time of the game and to reduce the amount of assets we would have to create.

22/11/24

During our lesson this week we had a talk about the rough outline of the story and developed anchor points for us to latch onto in terms of writing the script.

I was given Monday which consisted of the main character unpacking and introducing themselves to their flatmate.

Seb chose Tuesday which is the Lunch scene and the induction day.

Kenny got Wednesday which is the first day of actual lessons where the main character gets stressed out through the day and contacts their childhood friend

Niamh is on Thursday which is when the main character picks an outfit for an upcoming party while on call with their childhood friend.

Pantelis is on Friday which consists of some lessons then the party with different endings based on previous choices.

At this point we had quit a long break between as we were focusing on the business and admin side of this project as well as the Christmas break

31/1/25

This week we delegated some slightly new roles because some of us would've been lacking in things to do for the project as a whole if we continued in these roles because those aspects had been completed. On top of that our 2D lead gave us characters to focus on and produce assets for - i was given the childhood friend. Part of the way through this meeting we pivoted to the topic of Ren'py, Kenny was the most adept and confident in coding so that task was left to them to test and code while we developed assets.

7/02/25
This week we discussed the future of our game as well as future roles we may be able to pursue in the development of our game along side that we also talked about what other asset types need to be developed e.g. the UI design and the final character designs. We looked through what had already been produced and went from there. We also went through how we could improve our design pipeline of character design with the guidance of Niamh our character artist.

This week we are continuing our asset development and some alpha testing our game so far. Each of us by next week will have alpha tested the game and hopefully come back with our feedback for Kenny our programmer to alter anything they can.
During this meeting my role has been updated so that I will be in charge of the UI design after the script has been polished and finalised.

14/02/25

We didn't discuss much during this lesson but we did go over the feedback for Kenny and all of the kinks that needed to be ironed out. Other than that we continued creating assets and prep for our submission

21/02/25

This week we had a quick demo with our music student collaborator. During this demo she gave us a run down of the type of tracks she has made so far and asked us what kind of sound we would like going forward as well as how we can solidify a consistent motif to give the game sound more of an identity.

28/2/25

This week we introduced a new member of the team to our project, they are essentially functioning as a freelancer and QA tester.

7/03/25
Not much discussion happened this week it was mostly asset creation and some polishing. I started the production of a background image for the start of the game.

14/03/25
Again not much discussion for this week - we just got on with work and I started to fill in some gaps in my blog mostly on anxiety research and redoing some benchmark games research as our vision has shifted slightly.

21/03/25

This week we continued production - I finished the introduction background and started producing more choice screens

4/04/25

During our meeting this week we once again discussed whether to feature our main character in the game visually as well as whether we've already come too far to change it. We have also added in some more complete assets and have a better grasp on what still needs completing - I now also have some UI tasks to complete those being the sliders in the menu and put the new text boxes in the most recent build of the game as well as having a look at the other UI images that might need tuning.

25/04/25

This session consisted mostly of production however we did discuss how we could convey

Real Worlds: Research Dossier

Real Worlds Research Dossier SWOT Analysis My strengths when it comes to this project are generally character design including the props and written backstory of my characters another strength is my ability to produce some half decent key art. I will play to my strengths in the 3d section by doing a paint over of a 3d block out as well as creating some interesting props to look at within the piece itself. My major weakness is 3D and the general workflow around it, I have some skill but I am nowhere near good enough in my opinion. Another weakness of mine is ideation and perspective so I'll try to push myself a bit more in those aspects. The ideation section of the 3d will help me improve on this area of weakness because it will allow me to delve further into shape language and storytelling through visual details. An opportunity that will come up in this project will be when I receive direct feedback from a client telling me whether the designs are working or not enabling me to go ...

Texturing and model complete

Texturing Render captured in Sketchfab Texturing my model was quite simple I colour picked from my original character sheet and placed them where necessary using the polygon fill feature and a black mask. I also did most of the texturing on the base colour viewport to retain as much accuracy as I could.  One thing I will say before any critique over the accuracy of colours on the Tommy gun is purely for character background the chamber and the barrel aren't rust blued is because they want to take care of this weapon themselves; to stay disciplined and as a reminder, the magazine gets changed way more frequently and is not a part that is as important to her although she does fill her own magazines.  Character Texture tile Thompson M1928 Texture tile  I do plan on going back through my textures and adding my own shading instead of relying on lighting as much, doing so would also allow me to add more personality to the final model. There will also be a version with the...

Character sculpt 2 - Gangster

Character sculpt 2 - Gangster To start off my sculpt I used the base female model that comes with Zbrush. my main goal with this is to speed up my process I will eventually change the face to better match my character model but this acts as a good jumping off point.  The first part of the sculpt I created were the trousers the following method applies to all of the main sections of the sculpt. I start with a mask and then extract at zero thickness without a double sided surface. Next I then use the polish by features operation and then Zremesh the extracted object with it set to 1 to get it as close to 1000 polys as possible once that is done I'll do some minor tweaks and remesh it again. After that I'll apply the dynamic subdivision setting adding thickness  without actually confirming it this way I have some more freedom while keeping the original low poly mesh. Each of these components aside from the base mesh were created using the method I wrote in my last pa...
